Madasafish Closure
When
Madasafish (who used to be known as
Brightview and Freenetname) announced that they would be changing hands
and merging with some other company (if memory serves, I think it was
BT), one of the Sea Turkeys staffers decided it was time to jump ship
and head to a more reliable and better managed ISP. So at the end of November he fired off a quick e-mail telling them how much he hated their service and how unreliable they were. Basically, tell them that they couldn't run an ISP if they tried. A fairly vicious and hate-filled e-mail telling them that they sucked. His e-mail account (and free webspace) was due to run out at the end of January '08, so instead of paying a further £20 for the privilege of having some useless webspace. They pulled this trick last year when he went to cancel his account. He e-mailed, called and sent a letter to their London office to inform them of his decision to cancel the account. Apparently, this wasn't the way to cancel the account. So they debited £20 of his hard earned cash from his bank account and let him keep a useless domain name and webspace for a year.
Wanting to stab them in the face with a blunt instrument, he reluctantly agreed to this. When he was reminded about the soon to expire website and e-mail facilities (which attracted a lot of spam) in November. He sent them an e-mail with the strict instruction to cancel the account and not attempt to steal any money from his account, or they would find themselves on the end of long and drawn-out lawsuit.
As he had attempted to cancel this account the previous year, with no success, in the same manner, everyone at Sea Turkeys HQ thought that he'd receive an e-mail from Madasafish saying that if he wanted to cancel his account, then he was going the wrong way about doing so. Bets were placed and the stakes were high.
So, you can only imagine the surprise and shocked expressions on everyone's faces when the following e-mail came back from Madasafish:
Dear Sir,
Thank you for contacting Madasafish Customer Services with regard to your account. We will close this account on the renewal date and no further attempts will be made for payments.
Thank you for being a Madasafish
customer and we are sorry that you have chosen to leave our services
behind.
Yours faithfully
Madasafish Customer Services
Sometimes there's not always a fight to the bitter end when it comes to Sea Turkeys articles. Very rarely do we get an e-mail from a company who will hold up their hands and freely admit that they were at fault and do whatever we request of them to get justice.
